What does organic mean?

Organic foods

Organic foods are foods produced by methods that comply with the criteria of organic farming (e.g. meat, agricultural products, wines, and beverages). Organic farming in general features practices that aim to foster cycling of resources, promotes ecological balance, conserves biodiversity, and does not use any chemicals, additives or transgenics. Organic products also seek to contribute to a more natural and nutritious diet.

The use of the term "organic" is regulated by the law, although sometimes it allows some foods to use the term "natural" in its denomination, such as for example yogurt, coffee, and mineral water among others.

However, some products use this term only as a marketing strategy, seeking to sell a better-quality product, but they do not have the official certification, that is to say, the Euro-Leaf, which is the one and only that officially controls the organic nature of a product.

Bio olive oil

Vegetable oils are a healthy way to introduce essential fatty acids (alfa linolenic and omega 3 and 6 linoleic) to our bodies. These are substances that our body cannot synthesize and that should be acquired directly from food. That is why a healthy balanced diet must include these vegetable oils.

Oleander Bio uses cold pressure methods to obtain high-quality virgin oils, in order to avoid thermal stress and chemical treatments.

Arbequina olive oil features a balanced mixture of tastes (fresh, fruity and almond-like); a green to yellowish color, and nuts scent. It is rich in linoleic acid, it has a low sourness, and makes a very healthy product especially when we use it raw, for example when topping our salads and vegetables.

Oleander Bio's salt comes from salt mines in the Atlantic coast of Portugal, obtained through water evaporation. It is not refined nor contains any additive.

Atlantic coast salt features a natural source of sodium, calcium, magnesium, potassium and oligo elements such as iodine and manganese. Thanks to its natural origin its taste is highly valued nutritiously and culinary speaking.

Herbal salt it is an excellent combination of Atlantic salt and organic aromatic herbs such as marjoram, winter savory (satureja), oregano, garlic, parsley, nettle (urtica), celery, thyme, dill, salvia, coriander, and onion.

Fleur de sel is produced at sunset through a water and air thermal contrast. The prodigious seed : sesame

Sesame is an oleaginous seed and one of the most ancient crops of all times. Originated in Africa and Asia, it later expanded to the Mediterranean and America.

It is a very nutritious food, rich in unsaturated fatty acids (Omega 3 and lecithin). It features a high protein content and its a natural source of essential amino acids such as methionine and tryptophan; substances that help regulate our sleep and our perception of comfort.

It provides us with minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, iron, magnesium, and antioxidant vitamins (B1, B2, and E) so it makes an ideal food for very active people, pregnant women or people in recovery. It is also highly recommended in order to prevent osteoporosis.

It is important that the seeds are ground (or chewed more than 50 times) before consuming them, otherwise, they are expelled without being digested; that is the reason why Oleander Bio uses ground sesame as a fundamental ingredient for gomashio (also know as sesame salt), tahini and hummus.

Gomashio or sesame salt

Gomashio or sesame salt is made of non-peeled toasted ground sesame and sea salt. It is alkaline, stimulates our metabolism, increases internal secretion, it regenerates our intestinal flora, and it strengthens our nerve system. It can be consumed on a daily basis as if it was salt, except for hypertense people.
Among its natural beneficial properties, we have added those of seaweeds, which are a natural source of vitamin C, iron, potassium and other minerals. Seaweeds such as sea-spaghetti (aka himanthalia elongata) are remineralizing, metabolism regulators and depurating; not to mention that it adds a surprising touch of sea to our meals.
